The importance of a thorough exam
Many people have never had a proper gum exam. The most important part is a procedure we call 'depth probing' or 'periodontal probing'.
This is a method to check for any damage to the gums and bone surrounding the teeth.
Without this measurement, active disease might not be detected.In the early to moderate stages, most people are completely unaware they have a problem. Our Hygienist or Therapist will explain it all to you.
We use a measuring instrument, called a periodontal probe, which is a miniature ruler, delicately placed next to the tooth, to measure any damage in millimetres. It is not uncomfortable.
