What is Accreditation?
We are proud to be among the select practices in Australia to have achieved Accreditation. There are only a handful of accredited practices in the entire North and West regions of Melbourne.
It is a process where we are independently assessed by an external organisation (QIP), for our compliance with National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards to drive the implementation of safety and quality systems and improve the quality of health care in our practice.
It is not compulsory to be an accredited practice – a practice will voluntarily choose to go through the process, which can take up to a year. It took dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
However, we believe that by achieving accreditation we demonstrate concern and accountability in respect of health and safety, legislative governance, and our constant striving for improvement in patient care and systems.
Benefits to you
As a QIP accredited practice, it means our entire team are committed to improving and ensuring our systems, processes, culture, and actions meet a nationally recognised set of standards.
This means you can be reassured of high-quality care and support, and that safe work practices are provided to you, our patients.
What does it mean for us?
It is a measure of pride in our practice that helps us be the best we can be as we strive for constant improvement. It is not a trivial effort to become accredited.
On behalf of the entire team, I can say we are all pretty happy with this, it is a source of pride and satisfaction, an acknowledgement of our efforts to be our best and provide quality care. It is a statement of our aspirations to continually improve, and never be complacent. As the practice owner, I can state I have a team I respect and appreciate. It brings me great joy to come to work every day and be confident they will do a fantastic job of looking after you, and they have contributed conscientiously and wholeheartedly to our Accredited status - this has absolutely been a team effort.
It gives you, as a patient, more confidence. It is a measure of our commitment to safety and quality in health care.
While voluntary now, we foresee that Accreditation may be compulsory in future (it currently is compulsory for dental specialists and government institutions). We want to be a leading edge practice, in every way ahead of the pack in ensuring we adopt best practices and bake that into our daily practice and systems.
(As a footnote, for people reading this who are patients of non-accredited practices - do not feel that a non-accredited practice is necessarily any sign that you haven't been well cared for. There are good practitioners out there who are not yet accredited, that provide quality care. They undoubtedly will be in the years ahead)
