Activated Charcoal for Teeth Whitening

So, if you've got fillings in front teeth, you can end up getting black lines around them, which isn't a good look. I get a lot of people asking about these new charcoal toothpaste.

Do they help, do they work, what's the story with the charcoal? Well, I put a little article on my blog post recently about that.

I honestly think it's a bit of a fad. Charcoal can be hazardous to you in the long term, the particles can be a little bit abrasive.

So if you use it for a long time it can cause a lot of wear. Also, the actual charcoal particles themselves can get lodged in little gaps around fillings, and cause some dark lines to appear around them.

Also, there is the potential for charcoal particles to get trapped under the gum and even the potential for tattooing of the gum. So, it's really something that I can't recommend.

I don't think anyone should use the charcoal toothpaste.
